This is a transcription of a voicenote I recorded immediately after watching Spider-Man Brand New Day since I always like to take notes after any note-worthy experience.

My sensitivity allows me to see things and understand things very deeply, and that allows me to control them, hack these systems, and accomplish things other people cannot accomplish. I could also see parts of myself in Jean, because she has these telepathic abilities to enter people’s minds. And that is basically what I have with my empathy. I also connected to the quote written on May Parker’s stone grave, which is, “When you help someone, you help everyone.” And I kind of connected that to the way Jean’s telepathic ability works. Basically, the way she enters anyone’s mind is by hopping from person to person, right? Right to you. And you don’t need telepathic abilities to do that. If you’re really good at social engineering and empathizing with people, you can basically persuade them to do things. I’m not saying that you’re manipulating them, but you’re working with them. You’re like Reddington negotiating a deal.

So that really spoke to me. And then it’s like how memes spread, right? You don’t need telepathic abilities to do that.

I really liked Spider-Man’s setting, like the way he lived. I want to take screenshots of that and add them to my room because I really liked the cinematography of that movie. He lives very humbly. I also live very humbly. But he protects the city, works together with the police, and dearly misses his girlfriend. I was really surprised by it. But it wasn’t the movie that made me think this. It was already inside me, and watching that movie allowed me to really express what I’m feeling.

Another thing that resonated with me was when Hulk, or the professor who becomes Hulk, this physics professor, had Peter attend one of his lectures in order to ask him about his device that kind of suppresses his Hulk powers. Peter asked him whether he could suppress some of his tendencies because of his genetic mutation, or whether he could suppress some of his mRNA strands or something. They had a discussion about that, and then, at the end, the professor told Peter that maybe nature contains good and bad, and maybe Peter is just changing. Maybe he shouldn’t fight the way he feels in the moment. Maybe he should express that change.

Maybe he should just be himself and not try to control and suppress that part of him that he has no control over at the moment. Because at the moment, he uses mechanical spider webs because, at some point, somehow, his organic spider webs got dysfunctional or something. And now, after he saw MJ kissing another boy, he left the party, cried, and experienced some emotional distress. Somehow, that changed his hormonal levels, and he regained his organic webs. And the point was that maybe he shouldn’t suppress what is unique about him.

And then Jean misses her sister. And, yeah, they talked about loss — that you cannot go through this alone. You shouldn’t go through loss alone or by yourself.
